I was still on the ground floor but room had been upgraded and was situated to the rear of the Inn it was very quiet and although not the largest room I have ever stayed in it was very clean and comfortable and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. I have already booked to stay again next week.July 2017
Amazing meal, succulent roast beef and pork served with beautiful vegetables in a lovely environment with really attentive staff, #winningformula . Really exceptional, would reccommend. Cannot wait to go back!January 2017
We have just come back from a really lovely stay at the pub.The evening meal we had was beautiful the steak pie was just the nicest pie with proper Steak. The room was lovely and warm and so clean and the pub had a really warm welcoming atmosphere the staff were very friendly indeed feel really chilled to go back to work and will definitely stay there again thank you for a lovely stay.November 2016
We were in the area for a wedding and looking for somewhere reasonably priced. The Golden Lion exceeded our expectations. We received a very warm welcome, the room was a good size, with all facilities we needed. We had a starter each in the restaurant before we went out for the evening and the food was outstanding. I thoroughly recommend this little country gem!October 2016
You can tell the chef enjoys their job. The food was cooked to a very high standard. i had the beer battered cod and there was not an ounce of grease. The staff were excellent, hotel very clean and quiet.August 2016
We stayed one night last week arriving early afternoon. The room was ready with a bottle of sparkling and two glasses, as promised in the deal. A great four poster bed – which did creak quite a lot! – lovely room with nice bathroom with spa bath. All spotlessly clean and comfortable. Dinner was excellent with a good choice – as was the breakfast. The service from the staff was first class – Pauline (and Sandra) on Reception, Jonathon (top service thank you) and Maz in the Dining Room.July 2016
Had a very comfortable stay with my husband in this friendly hotel. The rooms were clean and the bed was nice and soft. We enjoyed a good dinner in the restaurant. I can recommend the mini rack of lamb!May 2016
We used to eat here regularly when living locally. Now we visit from Australia and it’s as good as ever. Really old inn and very attractive. Ate in the restaurant on a Saturday lunchtime as we wanted a quiet ambience to catch up with friends. And that’s what we got. With superb food and service. Our dairy free diner was well catered for with non dairy risotto, sea bass. Meat pie was great as was salmon. Lovely Pimms to drink. And great value. This is well worth going to. Food from same kitchen is also served in the bar.June 2016
Excellent well priced food and service in a quaint and very old but well maintained venue. Loved the decor, including the old handcarved pew we sat on.June 2017
Having stayed here several times, I would not hesitate to recommend – apologies for not reviewing sooner! Family owned, very well run hotel, with excellent restaurant. Everyone is very friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are comfortable and well equipped – the Four Poster Rooms have not to be missed !!March 2017
We had our wedding breakfast and evening party at the Golden Lion on 3rd September 2016.
Sara, who is the Golden Lion’s function organiser, was great. We met with her on three occasions to discuss arrangements, and found her to be very helpful.
The function suite is a bit of a blank canvas, being often used for conferences etc, so we arranged for a local company (Make My Day Events in Rugby) to dress the room and it looked fantastic.
The food was excellent, and the day went without a hitch..weather aside.. and we would recommend considering the Golden Lion for a wedding or other celebration. The staff were very helpful, and Sara stayed until the wee small hours to ensure everything went smoothly. It’s not a fantastically plush venue, but its a lovely place in a quiet village and they try hard to provide a good service.
The hotel rooms are very nice (we booked all of the hotel for our guests). One slight gripe was that the breakfast was only ok : being a smallish hotel the choice isn’t quite what you may expect.January 2017
I got married here in 2012 and it’s the best place to go for any occasion weddings/break or just some pub grub , I love this place and I think others would too . Rooms are spectacular and not bad priced.October 2016
We had arranged a school reunion to celebrate our 65th years having all started at Dunsmore Boys School, Rugby in 1962, having been there five years ago.
This family run hotel could not have been more helpful. As with all such things our numbers were flexible right up to the day and they were happy to adjust the menu and dining arrangements to suit us. We had a separate room and the service was really friendly and efficient
The breakfast was excellent this morning and we will be back but may not leave it another 5 years!
Very nice family.September 2016
Once again we enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Golden Lion. The food was perfect and the hospitality was absolutely fabulous. I don’t know why it took us so long to have a meal there but it is definitely my new favourite local restaurant. Will be back as often I can find a good excuse.August 2016
I can only echo the opinions of many others in that this hotel is everything you would expect from a well managed establishment. The bar is pleasant, the menu has a good selection of meals and the rooms are well appointed. One slight niggle (and this appears to be common to many hotels at this time of the year) was that a summer weight duvet would have been preferable to the somewhat heavier duvet that was provided – it would have made the overnight sleep more comfortable. Nonetheless, I would return again when travelling in this area of the country.June 2016
The Golden Lion is a lovely quiet pub in the countryside outside Rugby, with free parking, large rooms with large bathrooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room has a huge bed, which we found a bit on the hard side, but otherwise we couldn’t fault this establishment. The restaurant was lovely – the building is 400 years old so has some quirks like low doorways, and very old furniture. ‘Take a pew’ has another take here as one of the lovely old seats in the restaurant is a hand carved pew. The food is excellent – we enjoyed the salmon main! Very delicious! The pub provides free parking, fast and secure wifi, and is also a venue for larger functions. All in all a very pleasant stay and would come again!June 2017
I stayed in the Golden Lion when I was on a training course in Rugby. It was excellent. The receptionist was so nice , so refreshing when you’re used to premier inns and the sterile conversation you get at check in there. I was shown to my room which was a nice double. Wifi was fast , shower was good. The food and beer in the pub was first class as was the breakfast. If I’m ever training again in rugby I’ll be going back. Lovely stay and I stay in a lot of hotels with my job, so I know a good hotel when I see one.May 2017
Four of us stayed here on a Saturday night, we all agreed it was a first class experience, from the friendly greeting on arrival to the service in the bar and restaurant, the rooms were well presented and spotlessly clean with a nice comfortable bed , there was also a well stocked tea tray. A good choice of breakfasts, again served with a smile set us up for our journey home. Would definitely stay here again.March 2017
Chose this restaurant following trip advisor recommendations. Food was excellent and the waitress was very attentive without being ‘over the top’. Food was pipping hot and the chips were amazing. Best of all though is the chocolate cherry cheesecake. All food was beautifully prersented and would definitely return when in that area again.December 2016
Lovely Little Hotel In Rugby!!
Went To Rugby For A Business Trip Stayed Over At This Establishment Over Saturday Night!! Breakfast Was Gorgeous With Just Enough Presented Brilliantly Hotel Parking Was Really Easy Plenty Pf Spaces And Really Close To The Hotel So Not Far At All To Walk With Your Luggage With Is A Big Plus. Room Was Stunning Very Clean, Bed Was So Comfy Best Night Sleep Ever With No Noise, Peaceful Just How A Good Nights Sleep Should Be. Next Day We Stayed And Had Sunday Dinner Accompanied With A Tasty Leek & Potato Soup! Food Was The Highlight Of The Hotel And Overall Stay!!
This was a lovely surprise Lunch with family, food, staff & the restaurant all first class, service first class, we are even considering staying there for our Granddaughters wedding next year. Certainly look forward to dinning there again when in the area.September 2016
We stayed overnight at this hotel and had the most enjoyable stay. From check in to checkout the staff were always attentive and helpful. The Golden Lion is a combination of old and modern architecture, the inn part, is very old with low doorways which has been well padded. The hotel is a modern building, the bedrooms are of a reasonable size and well appointed. The on suite was a good size. The only slight criticism was the bath was a little high and could be a struggle for those with mobility problems.
The only meal we had was breakfast, which was presented excellently and served by a very pleasant young lady. The owner’s were always on hand and looking after the clientele and were a credit to the industry.
Regards Mr J. Flinders
