Take a Pew 5/5

The Golden Lion is a lovely quiet pub in the countryside outside Rugby, with free parking, large rooms with large bathrooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room has a huge bed, which we found a bit on the hard side, but otherwise we couldn’t fault this establishment. The restaurant was lovely – the building is 400 years old so has some quirks like low doorways, and very old furniture. ‘Take a pew’ has another take here as one of the lovely old seats in the restaurant is a hand carved pew. The food is excellent – we enjoyed the salmon main! Very delicious! The pub provides free parking, fast and secure wifi, and is also a venue for larger functions. All in all a very pleasant stay and would come again!

Delicious Breakfast 4/5

I stopped here for one night , the room was spacious and clean , and had all of the amenities I needed . The breakfast tasted home cooked – a previous reviewer commented on the bacon. I totally agree , I am very picky about bacon – this was superb. Staff were friendly and helpful, particularly welcome as I was in the area on distressing family business.

Always a winner

The staff are always so friendly which is nice as I regularly stay here! I really appreciate the gluten free bread and breakfast options as well :)

Nice hotel, great food

A surprisingly big hotel is hidden behind a wonderful looking country pub. Ample parking. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean and up together, certainly not palatial but along way from pokey. Room had a reasonable size tv, good sized desk, wardrobe and tea making facilities. The bathroom was clean with a bath a nice shower over. Food is served until 9:15, well it was on the day I went which was a Wednesday. The bar and restaurant are very nice, traditional, comfortable and well decorated. I was expecting the food to be ok and I was pleasantly surprised by both the quality of cooking and presentation. I had the king prawn and scallop starter with the steak burger for main. Both were very well put together, the scallops were done perfectly. The chips with the burger were VERY chunky yet soft and fluffy inside and crisp out side. The burger was a little over done for my liking and could have been left to rest for a wee bit as it made the bottom of the brioche bun go soggy. I have stayed in quite a few hotels in the area as I regularly stay up when I visit the office, this is probably the best so far, I will be back.
